WHAT IS Sclerotherapy?
55 percent of women and 45 percent of men suffer from spider veins. Spider veins often look like webs and can affect more than appearance, they can be uncomfortable and easily bleed. Often individuals choose specific wardrobes to hide their spider veins. At Knott Street Dermatology we want you to live your best life and not be hindered by a dermatologic or cosmetic concern. Sclerotherapy is a treatment to resolve spider or reticular veins by injecting a solution into the affected veins to cause them to safely collapse and disappear. It is also worth mentioning that sclerotherapy cannot be used to treat varicose veins, these are veins that are larger and bulging. Sclerotherapy is best suited for spider veins that are smaller and more superficial.
How to Optimize Your Results:
To get the most out of your treatment compression stockings must be worn immediately following the procedure and for four days after spider vein treatment. For reticular vein treatment veins, veins that are slightly larger than spider veins, it is recommended you wear the compression stockings seven days after procedure.
Compression stockings we recommend should be at least 12-20 mm/Hg for post treatment. Often only one treatment is needed but, in some cases, an additional treatment 4-6 weeks after the first may be needed. Depending on each individual’s case wearing compression socks daily or during certain activities can be helpful for preventing additional spider or varicose veins from returning or developing.
