KNOTT STREET DERMATOLOGY
Knott Street Dermatology provides quality skin, hair, and nail care incorporating current medical and surgical practices for optimal dermatological health. With a primary focus on treating skin
cancer, we offer Mohs Surgery and an in-house pathology laboratory. Knott Street Dermatology also has an aesthetic department offering a full array of cosmetic procedures. Our providers accept most insurance carriers, and are available in two locations to treat all of your skin, hair, and nail needs.

ERIC L. HANSON, MD FAAD
Dr. Eric L. Hanson earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois. He received his medical degree in 1994 from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA, graduating with the distinction of Alpha Omega Alpha. He then completed a transitional internship at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA, followed by a four-year military commitment with the US Navy in Groton, CT as an Undersea Medical Officer. While serving the diving and submariner community, CDR Hanson received many medals and commendations, including those honoring his service as a US Navy Diver, as well as his medical support for the Salvage Operation of TWA Flight 800 off the Long Island coast.
Dr. Hanson completed his dermatology residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was named Chief Resident in 2002.
Dr. Hanson is a board certified dermatologist and is actively affiliated with the American Board of Dermatology, American Academy of Dermatology, and the American Society of Mohs Surgeons. He is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology in Mohs Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Hanson commutes to work on foot or by bicycle. He enjoys playing the guitar and brewing his own beer.
Kit Sandstrom, NP
Katherine (Kit) Sandstrom graduated from the Honors Program at the University of Wisconsin- Madison with her BA in History of Science. While working for the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs on veteran healthcare issues, she discovered her calling as a healthcare provider.
She went on to receive her Bachelor of Nursing degree from Johns Hopkins University. She completed her master’s in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Pennsylvania while working full time as a nurse on an adult medical floor at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.
Kit worked in primary care and urgent care for over 10 years prior to joining Knott Street Dermatology and received extensive training under Dr Hanson.
Outside of work, Kit enjoys spending time with her husband, two young daughters, and dog. They enjoy hiking, reading, and cheering on the Portland Thorns soccer players.
CRAIG SCHULTZ, DCNP
Craig Schultz graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and went on to spend 5 years working in emergency departments throughout central Washington and the Portland/Vancouver area. He furthered his education by receiving his Masters in Nursing, with an emphasis in Family Medicine, from Washington State University in 2001. Craig Schultz has worked for Kaiser Permanente in Internal Medicine and Urgent Care, and as a same-day clinician at the Vancouver Clinic. He joined Knott Street Dermatology in 2007, and has had extensive training and mentorship by Dr. Eric Hanson.
Craig Schultz is a board certified member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, a Certified Dermatology Nurse Practitioner, as well as an affiliate of the Dermatology Nurses Association.
Craig is an avid bicycle commuter, and enjoys spending his free time with his wife Michelle and their two children.
Katie Conklin, NP
Katie Conklin graduated from the University of Texas with her Bachelor’s degree in Communications.
Katie always had a strong interest in medicine and healthcare, and so decided to pursue a degree in nursing. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Nursing degree followed by her Master’s in Nursing.
Her passion for dermatology was always evident and she gravitated toward career opportunities that let her expand her knowledge in this field. Katie moved to Portland in 2019 and continued her work in dermatology at ZoomCare, before joining Knott Street Dermatology, where she received even further training and mentorship under Dr. Eric Hanson.
When not working, Katie loves all things outdoors, like water rafting and hiking. This love of the outdoors has also inspired her love of travel. She and her husband love to explore new places and stop at some wineries along the way! Of course, she’ll also never say no to spending time with family, friends, and her two cute pups.
Michael St. Amand Physician Associate
Michael St. Amand, PA-C, is a certified physician associate who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly SLO), and a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). While at OHSU, Michael received specialized clinical training in dermatology and plastic surgery.
Following graduation, Michael began his career in general surgery, where he assisted in a wide range of procedures including melanoma and lipoma excisions. In addition to surgical first assisting, he led wound care management for his patients.
Michael transitioned from general surgery to dermatology after developing a deep interest in wound care, melanoma excisions, and postoperative melanoma education. Michael has completed extensive dermatologic training under the mentorship of Dr. Hanson.
Michael is affiliated with the Society of Dermatology Physician Associates (SDPA), Oregon Society of Dermatology Physician Associates (OSDA), American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA), and is actively involved with the Oregon Medical Education Foundation (OMEF).
In his free time Michael enjoys backpacking, hiking, camping, scuba diving, and spending time with his wife and two dogs.
Alicia McCarthy, ND
Cosmetic & Aesthetic Provider
Dr. Alicia McCarthy earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree from California State University of Fullerton in 2008 and her Naturopathic Medical degree in 2017 from National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR. The twelve years Dr. McCarthy spent working in emergency medicine as an EMT set the foundation for the provider she is today. She now specializes in aesthetic medicine, dedicating her continuing education and practice to staying current on the latest techniques and products. Dr. McCarthy believes in aging gracefully. She takes the time to sit down with each patient and find out what this means for them.
Prior to joining Knott Street Dermatology, Dr. McCarthy had her own practice in Lake Oswego focused on aesthetic medicine, hormone balancing, thyroid conditions, and IV medicine.
Originally from Southern California, Dr. McCarthy has lived in Portland for the last eleven years. When she is not working Dr. McCarthy stays busy with her two young kids, husky pup, and husband. They enjoy spending time outside, camping, swimming, and playing at the park.

CLINICAL STAFF
Our clinical staff consists of Nurses and Certified Medical Assistants whose main role is to ensure optimal patient care and smooth coordination between patients and providers. All of our Clinical Staff receive the highest training and certification and are well equipped to assist you.
ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF
Our administrative staff perform a variety of duties such as front desk reception, scheduling, insurance verification, bookkeeping and other tasks necessary for great patient care.
AESTHETICS STAFF
At Knott Street Dermatology, our Aesthetic department is lead by an incredible team of professionals. Their goal is to provide you with a comfortable atmosphere for all of your aesthetic needs helping you achieve a natural, youthful appearance.
